Sunnyvale

Madurai Idli Kadai (South Indian Cuisine)
http://www.maduraiidlikadai.com/

This is almost like hole in the wall kind of place, Not more than 30 people can sit inside. You need to order first & then look for place to sit. I went for dinner during the weekday, place was reasonably empty.

Appetizer

  • Medu Wada: Really crunchy, greasy & delicious. Chutney served along with it were also awesome. Their coconut & other green chutney is awesome and really spicy. Sambar was not the best I have eaten but it was decent. No complaints about Sambar.
Main Course:
  • Mysor Masala Dosa: This is one of the best Mysore Masala i have ever eaten. Main ingredient in Mysore Masala is the paste which they put on the inner layer of dosa. I have just one word for that "AWESOME". I am not big fan of ALOO masala but surprisingly it was delicious.
  • Veg. Uthapa: Nice and recommended.

** Only issue with the place is, it does not look clean. But for the price and food, I guess we can compromise.

Kabul (Afghan Cuisine)
http://www.kabulrestaurant.net/

Appetizer:
  • Bulanee: Delicious spring onion filled turnover. Let them know that you are vegetarian.
Entrees:
  • Challaw Gulpi: Very nice cauliflower dish, recommended by staff and I totally enjoyed it. It is generally served with rice. Portion size is decent for big appetite.
  • Vegetarian Platter: My friend order vegetarian platter which Gulpi (Caluifower dish), Kadu (Pumpkin topped with yogurt) & Sabsi (Spinach sauted with onion). Gulpi was definitely better. Kadu was little sweet for my taste.
** We went for lunch during the weekday, so they also served us salad in the beginning. I am not sure if they always serve same.
** Must try their bread, its amazingly soft & delicious.

Mountain View

Passage to India (Indian Food)
http://www.passagetoindia.net/restaurant/

  • Its a buffet place which serves both veg. & non-veg food. Considering myriads of options, I am sure you will find something which will cater to your pallet.

Shiva (Indian Food)
http://www.shivasrestaurant.com/

Main Course:

  • Dal Makhani: This is either my 3rd or 4th trip to Shiva & I would say Dal Makhani has always been my favorite. This is one dish which I would recommend to everyone. Its really delicious.
  • Kadhai Panner: My wife & I both liked this dish. We ordered this for the first time.
  • Malai Kofta: One of the better preparation as compare to other Indian places where we have eaten. Though we found it too rich (creamy) for our taste.
  • Naan: Like always, soft, warm and fresh.
  • Ajwain Laacha Paratha: We ordered this for the first time & would definitely recommend to others.

San Jose

Punjab Cafe
http://punjab-cafe.com/

Its literally a hole in the wall, kind of place. One of the framed reviews on the wall highlights something similar to: "Small in place but big in taste". My wife & I visited this place for lunch. We took buffet which has very limited option for both veg & non-veg.

  • Veg. options: Maa ki Dal (Lentil) and Navratan korma was delicious.Other mushroom dish I would not recommend.
  • Kheer was awesome and highly recommended.
  • Parathas are amazing. We ordered paneer paratha and it was unbelievably good.

  • Dumplings (vegetarian): Moist, Good with hot sauce.
Main Course:
  • Singapore Noodles: Vegetarian option is not listed in the menu, you need to specifically ask for it.
